INVITATION FROM THE COMMITTEE
The South Australian Branch of the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS) is proud to announce that the 35th annual conference will be held in Adelaide, from Sunday 17 to Wednesday 20 October 2010. The organising committee will be encouraging anyone with an interest in radiation protection to attend what will be a very special professional development and networking opportunity.
We invite you to attend the Adelaide conference as a delegate, exhibitor or sponsor and participate in this important Radiation Protection event. The conference will include a pre-registration cocktail evening on Sunday 17 October, and an official conference dinner on Tuesday 19 October. The pre-conference tour will be conducted on Sunday 17 October 2010, whereby delegates can join a field visit to Roxby Downs, including return airfares and a visit to BHP Billiton’s Olympic Dam Mine.
As the members of ARPS are engaged in a variety of activities designed to ensure the safe use of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, any assistance you provide will reach a range of industry groups. ARPS membership includes individuals from:
• State and Commonwealth regulatory bodies
• Mining and exploration companies
• Hospitals and other healthcare organisations
• Universities
• Telecommunication companies
• Manufacturing, testing and processing industries
• Radiation service providers.
With Australia experiencing a renewed interest in nuclear power, scientific sessions relating to uranium exploration, mining and mineral processing are planned. In addition to the scientific sessions, the site visit to the Olympic Dam Mine is expected to stimulate conversation amongst conference delegates and beyond.
However, the conference is not just about uranium. There are sessions and workshops planned on radiological emergency response, radiobiology, waste management, and medical exposures. In the case of medical exposures, the outcomes of the 4 day Asia Region ALARA Network meeting in Adelaide (13-16 October 2010) will flow through into the ARPS conference. The practical implementation of dose reduction strategies will be of great interest to many people in medical imaging, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. These scientific sessions and workshops will provide invaluable information and contacts for Radiation Safety Officers of medical facilities.
The Abstract submision site will be open at the beginning of February 2010 and we welcome your submissions. We look forward to welcoming you to Adelaide in 2010
